Visions of Rod Tidwell
"O.J. Mayo went out in a blaze of glory last Saturday while leading Huntington to a record third consecutive West Virginia Class AAA state basketball title. The 6-5 USC signee had 41 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a 103-61 rout of South Charleston. Late in the game he threw a long pass off the backboard, swooped in and dunked the rebound. With the crowd of 10,080 going crazy he then heaved the ball 25 rows deep into the stands. Nobody seemed to be bothered by the technical foul, because he received a standing ovation. He later gave one of his shoes away as a souvenir."
O.J. Mayo is on some Rod Tidwell in the end zone, T.O. on the Cowboy midfield star, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, over-the-top movie celebrations...
* To recap: he threw (a sick) pass to himself off the backboard, dunked, got hype, and threw the ball into the stands in celebration IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME (well, a minute to go). He's lucky George Teague wasn't around. I used to be torn between this being sick and ridiculous. Now, I think it's simply ridiculous. If it had been "THE Vince Carter Dunk" then it would only be sick. "Don't [believe] me, watch TV":
* I have to admit I'm proud (and, unfortunately, anti-shilling) to say that a modified version of this was used in Bill Simmons' (personal god) article/blog (3/22). I can knock that off the list. If only Simmons wrote for another website. Next up: The 10 Spot.

Eh, the dunk ain't even that sick. And is he old enough to drive? I feel like he should save reactions like that for when he actually IS a somebody and when he actually DOES something.
