Speaking of Maroon 5, I am admittedly and unabashedly very much a fan but for whatever reason I am not usually inclined to play their music on my own, say on my home computer. But then I went into Old Navy where they were playing a song off of Songs About Jane and since that occasion, Maroon 5 has dominated my playlist. This is not the first time that this “phenomenon” has occurred, that phenomenon being Old Navy influencing my music consumption. I think it is the store’s atmosphere combined with the type of songs they play that heighten my listening experience. Further, Old Navy often plays new-to-my-ears remixes of songs that I have enjoyed (e.g. Lauryn Hill – Ex-Factor). Thus, I often enter the store simply with the hope I’ll be blessed musically.
